About CHA

The Clarkson Horseman Association was formed in 1994 by horse owners, breeders, and enthusiasts for the purpose of educating the community about horses.

Everyone is welcome to join CHA. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month, 12 months a year, at the Seymour Library, 161 East Ave, Brockport at 7:00PM.

Annual membership dues are $25 for a family (must reside at the same address) and $20 for an individual. Membership runs from January 1st to December 31st.

A monthly newsletter containing meeting minutes, classified ads and other announcements is published by CHA. The newsletter is available to all paid-in-full members, and is distributed by e-mail or regular mail (for a fee) and can be viewed by clicking here (CHA issued username and password required for online viewing).

CHA plans many events throughout the year. Paid members can earn points at designated CHA events towards year end awards. Some of the events include a series of Open Horse Shows, participation in local parades, trail rides, hosting an annual Tack Swap, guest speakers and Fundraiser Fun Shows. The number of events is dependent upon voluntary assistance from the membership.

The club ends each year with a banquet. The banquet committee puts together an afternoon of fun including a photo contest, guest speaker and plenty of amazing food! Year End Awards are presented at this time.

Our CHA Parade Team members and their horses train specifically for parades, developing communication and trust. It takes a special horse and confident rider to stay focused with all the distraction of a parade. CHA loves educating the public on horsemanship and proudly displays this through our parade riders. CHA Parade Team participates annually in Rochester’s Lilac Parade in May, one of the largest celebrations of this kind in North America. The team has members riding in other parades such as the Henrietta Town Parade and several Volunteer Fire Department Parades as well.

CHA Trail Riders have teamed up with another local club to participate as guests for the clubs monthly trail rides. Our Trail Boss, Cindy, is always eager to join a few people out for a trail ride at Northampton Park or other local places.

The CHA Show series will be held at the Orleans County 4-H Fairgrounds, 12690 NY-31, Albion, NY 14411 this year. This venue has both outdoor and indoor arena (no more rain dates!), stalls, ample parking and many other amenities to make shows enjoyable for all participants, 2- and 4-legged!

2016 Show Season will also feature the first annual Summer Spectacular weekend of horse show fun! There will be English and Western Open Shows, gaming, Hunter Derby, chicken BBQ, line dancing and much more! Hook up will be available for campers. Save the dates: July 9-10 for the best time in town! More information is available on the Clarkson Horseman Association Facebook page.

CHA gives back to the community! Annually the club sponsors a FUNdraiser Gaming Horse Show to raise money for a local horse related nonprofits. Recent recipients include the Begin Again Horse Rescue and Purple Pony Therapeutic Riding Program. CHA Members also help to support and run the Annual St. Jude’s Fundraiser Show sponsored by Troyer’s Equimeadows to raise money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Several club members have also participated annually by giving pony rides at Camp Abilities, a summer camp for children with visual impairments.

The Town of Clarkson is also proud to be home of Hafner Park, which is located off of Route 19 on Horizon Park Drive in the Town of Clarkson, sports a 170' by 240' arena. Volunteers from the Clarkson Highway Department and the CHA Club members hand built the arena over a period of 2 years. The facility is one of the nicest in Monroe or the surrounding counties and is available for use to the general public.
